Assistant Pastry Chef

Qualifications:

• At least college level; culinary, baking, pastry arts, or hospitality-related training is an advantage
• With relevant experience in a bakery, pastry kitchen, cafe, restaurant, or hotel environment
• Basic knowledge of preparing cakes, breads, cookies, pastries, fillings, frostings, and plated desserts
• Familiar with proper weighing, measuring, mixing, proofing, baking, cooling, decorating, and storage procedures
• Able to follow standardized recipes, production schedules, portion sizes, and presentations standards
• Knowledgeable in the proper use and handling of ovens, mixers, proofers, chillers, and other pastry equipment
• Detail-oriented, with strong focus on product consistency, taste, texture, appearance and quality
• Able to assist in decorating, assembling, and presenting pastry and dessert products
• Understands proper food handling, sanitation, allergen control, stock rotation, and kitchen safety practices
• Organized and able to perform multiple production tasks efficiently under time pressure
• Able to monitor ingredients and immediately report low stocks, spoilage, or quality concerns
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the pastry kitchen, tools, equipment, and workstations
• Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, and holidays
• Must possess professionalism, discipline, creativity, teamwork, and a genuine passion for baking and pastry

Preferred Extra Skills:

• Graduate of Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, or a related course
• Holder of TESDA Bread and Pastry Production NC II or other relevant certification
• Experience in cake decorating, piping, glazing, chocolate work, and dessert plating
• Knowledgeable in costing, portion control, inventory monitoring, and waste management
• Familiarity with sourdough, laminated dough, artisan bread, and viennoiserie production
• Ability to assist in product testing and the development of new pastries and seasonal desserts
• Basic understanding of pairing pastries and desserts with coffee and other cafe beverages
• Portfolio or photographs of previous pastry and baking work are an advantage
