Medical Coder – Inpatient Coding

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Medical Coders with a strong background in Inpatient Coding. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing inpatient medical records and accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes in compliance with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, coding guidelines, and payer regulations.

Qualifications

• Active CIC, CPC, or CCS certification
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Inpatient Procedural Coding
• Experience reviewing and coding inpatient hospital charts
• Familiarity with DRG assignment and reimbursement methodologies
• Knowledge of official coding guidelines, compliance standards, and payer requirements
• Excellent analytical and attention-to-detail skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
• Ensure proper code sequencing and compliance with coding guidelines
• Analyze physician documentation and query providers when clarification is needed
• Assign and validate DRGs for reimbursement purposes
• Maintain productivity and quality standards established by the organization
• Stay current with coding updates, regulations, and industry best practices
• Participate in audits, educational sessions, and quality improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with clinical and revenue cycle teams to ensure coding accuracy
