Safety Officer

A Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment by implementing safety policies, identifying workplace hazards, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular workplace and site safety inspections.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure employees follow safety procedures and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training programs.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and prepare reports.
• Maintain safety records, inspection reports, permits, and documentation.
• Monitor high-risk activities such as working at height, lifting operations, excavation, confined-space entry, and hot work.
• Ensure emergency procedures, fire protection equipment, and evacuation arrangements are maintained.
• Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and management on HSE matters.
• Stop or report unsafe work practices and follow up on corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and local occupational health and safety regulations.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or relevant technical/vocational education with appropriate safety training

Required / Preferred Training

• DOLE Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training
• Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) training,
• First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) training
• Fire Safety and Emergency Response training
• Risk Assessment / HIRAC training

Experience

• At least -3 years of experience in occupational safety, construction, marine, industrial, or similar operations.
• Experience conducting workplace inspections, toolbox meetings, safety orientations, and incident investigations.
• Experience preparing safety reports and maintaining OSH documentation

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of the Philippine Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSH Standards) and RA 11058.
• Ability to conduct hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRAC).
• Knowledge of PPE, emergency procedures, accident/incident investigation, and safety documentation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
• Good report-writing and communication skills.
