Purpose

The Performance Test Lead will own and drive the performance testing strategy for our IoT & SCADA platform. This role is responsible for designing and executing load, stress, and endurance tests across on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments to ensure the platform can handle high-volume IoT data, real-time SCADA operations, and enterprise-scale workloads while meeting performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design performance testing strategies, test plans, KPIs, SLAs, and performance models for IoT ingestion, SCADA polling, dashboards, alerting, and reporting.
  • Configure performance test environments that replicate on-premises and Azure production environments.
  • Develop and maintain performance test scripts using JMeter, k6, Locust, Gatling, or similar tools.
  • Simulate large-scale workloads, including 10,000+ device connections, MQTT/OPC UA traffic, high-frequency sensor data, and SCADA HMI activity.
  • Integrate automated performance tests into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, Grafana, and similar tools.
  • Identify bottlenecks and analyze CPU, memory, database latency, IoT Hub throttling, network performance, and end-to-end latency.
  • Prepare performance reports, capacity recommendations, and SLA pass/fail results for engineering teams and client stakeholders.
  • Work closely with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to improve application, database, and cloud performance.
  • Support UAT, major releases, client deployments, and post-release hypercare.
  • Establish performance testing standards, templates, processes, and best practices for the organization.
  • Ensure performance testing is conducted safely, particularly when working with systems connected to live OT/SCADA environments.

Qualifications/ Requirements of the job

  • 5+ years of experience in performance testing, with proven experience designing performance strategies and not only executing test scripts.
  • Strong hands-on experience with JMeter, k6, Locust, Gatling, or similar performance testing tools.
  • Experience testing cloud-native, hybrid, and enterprise-scale systems, preferably in Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Understanding of IoT and SCADA systems, including device telemetry, MQTT, OPC UA, PLCs, real-time dashboards, and time-series data.
  • Experience working with high-volume or high-cardinality data and real-time performance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret logs, metrics, and traces to identify root causes.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and observability tools.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Azure IoT Hub and Azure Data Explorer or similar time-series databases.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform for performance test environment setup.
  • Familiarity with OT networks, PLCs, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience integrating performance testing into Azure DevOps.
  • ISTQB Performance Testing certification.
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect certification.
