Position: AI AUTOMATION ENGINEER
Work Schedule: EST Timezone, Flexible, Part-Time, Remote
Availability required as needed for collaboration and key project tasks.
Rate: 8-10 USD per hour
Primary Responsibilities
- Deeply map and document an existing manual workflow alongside internal stakeholders
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and capacity gains through automation
- Design the target-state process and supporting technical requirements
- Produce clear, structured documentation (process maps, SOPs, technical specs, and prompt artifacts)
- Use Al-assisted development tools (e.g., Replit, Cursor, Claude Code, similar platforms) to build functional internal automation tools Iterate on solutions through daily collaboration and working sessions
- Deploy tools into day-to-day operational use and support initial adoption
Expected Time Allocation
- ~20% collaborative brainstorming and solution design
- ~40% documentation (process mapping, requirements, prompts, SOPs)
- ~40% building and iterating on automation tools using Al-assisted coding
Technical & Functional Expectations
- Experience using Al-native or Al-assisted development platforms to build real, working tools
- Strong understanding of software development workflows, especially requirements definition and technical documentation
- Comfortable working directly with production systems and data
- Focused on functional, reliable internal tools (not consumer-grade polish or UI-heavy work)
- Ability to translate messy business problems into structured inputs for Al-driven code generation
Collaboration & Autonomy
- Daily collaboration expected, with flexibility depending on project phase
- Initial direction and tradeoff decisions will come from me, with an expectation that this becomes a more joint decision-making process over time
- Candidate should be able to clearly articulate how they collaborate with a business owner to go from idea → documentation → working automation
Project Structure & Time Commitment
- Focused on one core workflow during the initial 3 months
- Flexible schedule, up to full-time (preferred if available)
- Open-ended project scope within the 3-month period, defined collaboratively at the outset
Success Criteria
- Delivery of a production-used automation that meaningfully improves efficiency or capacity compared to the prior manual process
- Clear documentation that allows the process and tooling to be understood, maintained, and extended
- Demonstrated ability to use Al tools as leverage, not as a black box
