Description

As a Commercial Engineer specializing in the bidding phase of energy sector power projects, you will play a crucial role in preparing and managing commercial aspects of bids for solar power, wind power, transmission lines, substations, and hydropower projects. You will collaborate closely with project teams, clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to develop competitive bid proposals that align with technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and financial objectives. Proficiency in English is essential, with proficiency in Chinese preferred for effective communication with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.


  • Commercial Strategy Development: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior management to develop commercial strategies for bidding on energy sector power projects. Align commercial strategies with project objectives, client requirements, and market conditions to maximize profitability and competitive advantage.
  • Bid Preparation and Submission: Lead the preparation and compilation of comprehensive bid proposals for solar power, wind power, transmission lines, substations, and hydropower projects. Develop commercial pricing models, cost estimates, contract terms, and conditions in accordance with client specifications and bidding requirements.
  • Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments and analysis to identify commercial risks associated with energy sector projects. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize financial exposure and ensure bid compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contract terms, pricing agreements, and commercial terms with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and partners. Ensure contractual agreements are mutually beneficial, legally compliant, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Market and Competitor Analysis: Research and analyze market trends, industry benchmarks, and competitors' bids to benchmark pricing strategies and position bids competitively. Conduct SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to commercial aspects of bidding strategies.
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners throughout the bidding process. Address client inquiries, negotiate changes, and provide ongoing support to enhance client satisfaction and business development opportunities.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensure all bid documentation, commercial proposals, and contractual agreements are accurate, complete, and submitted within specified deadlines. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare comprehensive commercial analysis reports, financial forecasts, and variance analyses for review by senior management. Provide insights and recommendations to optimize commercial strategies, improve profitability, and mitigate risks associated with energy sector projects.

Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Commercial Engineer, Contract Manager, Bid Manager, or similar role in the energy sector, with specific experience in bidding for power projects such as solar power, wind power, transmission lines, substations, or hydropower.
  • Strong proficiency in commercial and financial analysis, contract negotiation, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English is essential; proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) is preferred for effective communication with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of energy project development, regulatory requirements, procurement processes, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, develop pricing models, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Familiarity with project management principles, contract law, and commercial terms and conditions.
