“Poh-key” is the Hawaiian word for “cutting” or “slicing”. Today’s poke we know and love was inspired by Eastern and Western cuisine, creating a distinctly fresh dish of marinated raw fish and rice. Naming it Ono means “delicious” in Hawaiian.
