Inventory Control Specialist

An inventory controller job description includes overseeing stock levels, ensuring accuracy, and managing the movement of goods to meet business needs while minimizing costs. Key responsibilities involve tracking inventory through software systems, forecasting future demand, conducting regular counts, resolving discrepancies, and generating reports to inform business decisions. 

Core responsibilities

• Inventory management: Monitoring stock levels and maintaining accurate records of all incoming and outgoing inventory.
• Data analysis and reporting: Analyzing inventory data to identify trends, generating reports on stock levels, and tracking key metrics like accuracy rates.
• Forecasting and ordering: Forecasting future demand and coordinating with suppliers to order and receive necessary goods, often at optimal pricing.
• Discrepancy resolution: Conducting physical inventory counts and cycle counts, and investigating and correcting any discrepancies between stock and records.
• Process improvement: Developing and implementing improvements to inventory control procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
• Collaboration: Working with other departments, such as sales, production, and logistics, to ensure inventory levels align with business needs.
• Record keeping: Entering data from various sources, such as invoices, receipts, and shipping documents, into digital databases. 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in inventory control, warehouse, or logistics.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficient in MS Excel and inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
