Laboratory Technician

The Laboratory Technician works under the supervision of the Dean or Department Head and supports the effective operation of science laboratories. The role involves preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety standards, and assisting faculty and students during laboratory activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare, issue, and organize laboratory materials, reagents, apparatus, and equipment requested by faculty and students
• Set up laboratory rooms and ensure readiness before classes or experiments
• Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of laboratory facilities
• Monitor and check laboratory equipment for proper functioning and report any issues
• Perform basic maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and minor repairs of lab equipment
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, glassware, and laboratory supplies
• Keep accurate records such as inventory reports, calibration logs, and equipment service records
• Assist faculty and students during laboratory experiments and demonstrations
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and proper waste disposal
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or any related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related programs)
• Training or experience in laboratory procedures is preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and equipment handling
• Strong organizational skills, especially in record-keeping and inventory management
