Safety Officer – Construction

Minimum Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education & Certifications:

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related fields
• International certifications:
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) – Highly preferred worldwide
• IOSH Managing Safely
• OSHA certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety)
• First Aid & CPR Certification

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of construction safety standards (local laws and international best practices)
• Ability to conduct risk assessments
• Accident/incident investigation
• Knowledge of PPE, scaffolding safety, lifting operations, confined spaces, work-at-height safety

Soft Skills:

• Strong communication and leadership
• Report writing
• Problem-solving
• Training and presentation skills

Experience Requirements:

• Entry-level: 0–2 years with proper certification
• Mid-level: 3–5 years construction safety experience
• Senior (Safety Supervisor/Engineer): 5–10 years experience

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct site inspections
• Ensure compliance with safety rules and local regulations
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety training
• Monitor high-risk activities (work at height, excavation, crane lifting, hot work)
• Prepare safety reports and maintain documentation
• Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions
