Job Description

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • Board-licensed Metallurgical Engineer
  • At least 2–3 years experience in a foundry environment (investment casting or sand casting).
  • Experience with melt shop operations, alloys (ferrous and/or non-ferrous), and metallurgical testing.
  • Knowledge of casting metallurgy, metal solidification, and phase transformation.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical testing data, microstructure results, and spectrometer readings.
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (PT, MT, RT, UT).
  • Experience with foundry simulation software is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Reduction of casting defects and scrap rate.
  • Consistency in chemical and mechanical properties.
  • Compliance with customer and industry specifications.
  • On-time completion of metallurgical reports, failure analysis, and improvement projects.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor metallurgical process parameters for investment casting and sand casting.
  • Establish and maintain metal melt practices including charge calculation, alloy selection, temperature control, and refining processes.
  • Ensure compliance with metallurgical standards, heat treatment procedures, and correct microstructure requirements.
  • Monitor and improve chemical composition consistency through spectrometer analysis and melt adjustments.
  • Conduct metallurgical testing such as hardness testing, tensile testing, microstructure examination, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Review and analyze chemical, mechanical, and microstructure results to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct research and development on encountered casting defects.
  • Maintain metallurgical records, certifications, and traceability documents.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to reduce rejection rates and improve casting quality.
  • Conduct research on new alloys, coating materials, refractory systems, and heat treatment techniques.
  • Work closely with Quality, Production, and Maintenance to ensure robust metallurgical practices and process efficiency.
  • Assist production teams in optimizing molding, pouring, gating, riser design, and solidification processes.
  • Provide technical guidance on sand systems, wax patterns, shell building, metal flow, and casting cleanliness.
  • Support troubleshooting of casting issues on the shop floor and recommend improvements.
