Materials Handling Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily materials handling activities including receiving, storage, issuance, and internal transport of materials

• Ensure timely delivery of raw materials to production areas (e.g., cane milling, fermentation, distillation, utilities)

• Oversee loading and unloading operations of trucks and delivery vehicles

• Monitor handling of finished products and by-products (e.g., ethanol, molasses, CO2, vinasse if applicable)

• Ensure proper stacking, labeling, and storage of materials

• Maintain FIFO / FEFO implementation where applicable

• Coordinate with Warehouse, Production, and Procurement teams for material requirements

• Conduct time and motion studies to improve materials handling efficiency

• Analyze manpower utilization and recommend optimal staffing levels

• Develop and improve materials handling workflows and layout

• Implement productivity improvement initiatives

• Identify and eliminate non-value-adding activities

• Improve turnaround time of material movements

• Optimize warehouse and yard layout for better space utilization

• Develop standard work procedures for materials handling operations

• Ensure preventive maintenance coordination with Plant Maintenance

• Monitor fuel consumption and equipment utilization

• Ensure safe operation of all materials handling equipment

• Enforce safety policies and procedures in materials handling operations

• Conduct regular safety inspections of warehouse and yard areas

• Ensure proper PPE usage by materials handling personnel

• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements

• Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions

• Ensure accurate recording of material movements

• Monitor stock levels and report discrepancies

• Coordinate with Warehouse team for cycle counts and inventory audits

• Maintain materials handling reports and performance metrics

• Lead cost reduction and efficiency improvement initiatives

• Recommend automation opportunities where applicable

• Participate in lean manufacturing or operational excellence initiatives

• Implement 5S in materials handling areas

• Supervise Materials Handling Operators, Helpers, and Drivers

• Prepare manpower schedules and shift assignments

• Conduct coaching and performance evaluation

• Identify training needs and conduct skill development programs

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering (Preferred)

• At least 3–5 years experience in materials handling, warehouse, or logistics operations

• Experience in manufacturing or bioethanol plant is an advantage

• Experience in Industrial Engineering or process improvement is preferred

• Experience supervising manpower is required

• Industrial Engineering and process improvement skills

• Knowledge of materials handling and warehouse operations

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Knowledge in time and motion study

• Layout planning and workflow optimization

• Leadership and supervisory skills

• Good coordination and communication skills

• Knowledge in safety practices

• Basic computer skills (Excel, reporting, data analysis)
