Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure ships are supplied with required hardware and software, including migration from legacy servers to new environments.
  • Install, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot satellite communication components.
  • Coordinate with service providers and third-party suppliers to resolve issues and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  • Commission IT systems on board and manage users and mobile terminals. Maintain and update hardware/software on board and on shore-based systems connected to the vessels.
  • Provide first-level support for maritime systems (office and fleet), including on-site deployments when required.
  • Support the development of future-proof IT solutions and automation.
  • Troubleshoot specialised process software, perform PC upgrades/retrofits, and support configuration management
  • Ensure the security of shipboard networks and systems
  • Lead and drive vessel-related projects within ICU and across departments; support project work within the Group and with clients/partners.
  • Work with stakeholders across the Group to identify and implement process improvements.


Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as Vessel IT
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Proven experience supporting critical 24/7 operational environments
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and practical manner
  • Willingness and readiness to travel as required
  • Strong sense of ownership with the ability to scale and support fleet-wide operations
  • Solid architectural understanding of shipboard IT environments
  • High level of resilience and composure under pressure
  • Results-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently


Technical Competencies

Network & Infrastructure

  • Design and implementation of complex network environments, including VLANs, routing, and firewalls
  • Experience with WAN technologies, VSAT, and Starlink connectivity
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities across Layers 1–3
  • Remote support experience using tools such as Remote Desktop and TeamViewer


Systems & Platforms

  • Administration of Windows and Linux server/client environments
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V
  • Software deployment, patch management, and system updates
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with maritime mail systems


Cybersecurity

  • Network security implementation and system hardening
  • Monitoring, threat detection, and incident response
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIS2, and maritime classification/security requirements


Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Setup and management of systems monitoring solutions
  • Early detection and proactive resolution of technical issues
  • Structured incident management and root cause analysis


Project Management & Delivery

  • Planning and execution of IT installations for newbuilds and retrofit projects
  • Coordination with vendors, shipyards, and internal stakeholders
  • Development of rollout strategies and risk management plans


Operational Excellence

  • Installation and maintenance of IT hardware, including servers, switches, and endpoints
  • Structured cabling and infrastructure maintenance
  • Rapid incident response with a strong focus on operational continuity and safety
