Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Library Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the school library.
  • Organize and maintain library collections, including books, digital resources, and multimedia materials.
  • Implement cataloging and classification systems to enable easy access to resources.

Instruction and Support:

  • Provide information literacy instruction to students, teaching research skills and effective use of library resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into curriculum planning and classroom instruction.
  • Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing materials for educational purposes.

Collection Development:

  • Evaluate and select new materials for purchase, considering curriculum needs and student interests.
  • Maintain an up-to-date collection that reflects diverse perspectives and supports educational goals.
  • Regularly assess the relevance and condition of library materials.

Technology Integration:

  • Utilize technology to enhance library services and facilitate access to digital resources.
  • Train students and staff on using library databases, e-books, and other digital tools.
  • Stay current with emerging technology trends that can benefit library services.

Programs and Events:

  • Plan and implement literary events, book fairs, reading programs, and other activities to promote a culture of reading.
  • Organize author visits, workshops, and other educational programs to engage students and enhance learning.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work with faculty and administration to support and enhance the school’s educational objectives.
  • Communicate library policies and procedures clearly to students, staff, and parents.
  • Provide training and support for staff in utilizing library resources effectively.

Student Engagement:

  • Foster a welcoming environment that encourages students to explore, discover, and engage with library resources.
  • Conduct reading programs and incentives to promote student reading engagement and achievement.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain records of library usage and prepare reports to evaluate and improve library services.
  • Manage the library budget, including ordering materials and supplies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing agreements for library resources.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent experience.
  • Certification or licensure as a school librarian as required by state regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of library cataloging and information management systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Passion for reading and promoting literacy among students.
