Interior Designer (Construction / Design & Build)

Position Summary

The Interior Designer is responsible for developing creative and functional interior design solutions for commercial fit-out projects, including clinics, offices, restaurants, retail spaces, and other commercial establishments. The role works closely with clients, architects, engineers, estimators, procurement, and project managers to ensure that designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with the project budget and schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

• Meet with clients to understand project requirements and design objectives.
• Develop space planning, layout options, and design concepts.
• Prepare mood boards, material palettes, and finish selections.
• Produce presentation drawings and 3D visualizations.
• Recommend furniture, lighting, fixtures, colors, and accessories.

Technical Documentation

Prepare complete interior design drawings including:

• Floor PlansReflected Ceiling Plans (RCP)Interior ElevationsDetailed SectionsJoinery and Millwork DetailsFurniture LayoutDoor ScheduleFinish ScheduleMaterial Specifications
• Ensure drawings are coordinated with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans.

Project Coordination

• Attend client meetings, design presentations, and site inspections.
• Coordinate with suppliers regarding materials and product specifications.
• Work closely with the estimator for cost-efficient design solutions.
• Coordinate with project engineers and site supervisors during construction.
• Review shop drawings and approve material samples.

Site Responsibilities

• Conduct site measurements and ocular inspections.
• Monitor design implementation during construction.
• Resolve design issues and prepare revisions when necessary.
• Verify completed work against approved drawings and specifications.

Documentation

• Maintain organized project files and revisions.
• Prepare material specifications and BOQs when required.
• Assist in preparing as-built drawings upon project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design.
• Preferably a Licensed Interior Designer.
• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in commercial interior fit-out or Design & Build projects.
• Experience in clinics, restaurants, offices, and retail projects is an advantage.

Technical Skills

• AutoCAD (required)
• SketchUp
• V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion, or D5 Render
• Adobe Photoshop
• Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of construction detailing and materials
• Ability to read architectural and engineering drawings

• Minimize site design issues through accurate documentation.
• Complete material selections and specifications before procurement deadlines.

Reporting Line

Reports directly to the Design Manager / Operations Manager and collaborates with Project Engineers, Estimators, Procurement, and Project Managers.
