The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies within the cold storage facility. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, prevents workplace accidents, and promotes a safe working environment in low-temperature, refrigerated, and warehouse operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce safety rules and procedures specific to cold storage operations
  • Monitor employee compliance with PPE requirements, including cold-weather gear
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of cold rooms, freezers, loading docks, and equipment
  • Identify hazards related to low temperatures, slippery surfaces, heavy lifting, and machinery
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of refrigerated and frozen goods
  • Monitor refrigeration systems and report leaks or malfunctions (e.g., ammonia or Freon systems)
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and corrective actions
  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and emergency drills
  • Ensure clear signage, emergency exits, alarms, and temperature controls are maintained
  • Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams on safety issues
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, OSHA/HSE standards, and company policies
