Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Academic Counseling

  • Assist students in course selection and academic planning.
  • Monitor student progress and provide interventions for those at risk of academic failure.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student achievement.

Personal Counseling

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students on personal, social, and emotional issues.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support during challenging situations.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for students to express concerns.

Career Counseling

  • Guide students in exploring career options and setting career goals.
  • Provide resources and information about post-secondary education, vocational training, and job opportunities.
  • Assist with college applications, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Program Development

  • Develop and implement workshops and programs on topics such as study skills, stress management, and college readiness.
  • Organize events, such as career days and college fairs, to facilitate student exploration of post-secondary options.
  • Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of counseling programs.

Collaboration and Advocacy

  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and community organizations to support student needs.
  • Advocate for the social, emotional, and academic development of students.
  • Maintain a referral network of mental health professionals and community resources.

Record Keeping and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes and assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and legal requirements regarding student confidentiality.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for state and federal funding.

Professional Development

  • Stay current on best practices in school counseling and educational trends.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and workshops.
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in school counseling or a related field is preferred.
  • Certifications: Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Proficient in assessment practices and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of college admissions processes and career planning resources.
