Electrical Inspector


Job Summary

The Electrical Inspector is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and ensuring that all electrical works are executed in accordance with approved plans, technical specifications, applicable codes and standards, project requirements, and client expectations. The Electrical Inspector oversees the quality and progress of electrical installations for buildings and horizontal development projects, conducts inspections and testing, coordinates with contractors and consultants, identifies construction deficiencies, and ensures that all electrical systems are completed in compliance with project requirements prior to testing, commissioning, and turnover.

Duties and Responsibilities

Building Electrical Works

  • Inspect and monitor the installation of electrical systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Verify the installation of power distribution systems, lighting systems, panel boards, transformers, generators, Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), Motor Control Centers (MCC), and other electrical equipment.
  • Inspect rough-in and roughing works, conduits, cable trays, raceways, junction boxes, pull boxes, and wiring installations.
  • Verify proper installation, labeling, grounding, bonding, and termination of electrical equipment and cables.
  • Witness testing, energization, and commissioning activities to ensure system functionality and compliance.

Low Voltage and Auxiliary Systems

  • Inspect the installation of auxiliary and extra-low voltage (ELV) systems, including:
  • Fire Alarm and Detection System (FADS)
  • Public Address (PA) System
  • CCTV System
  • Structured Cabling System
  • Telephone and Data System
  • Access Control System
  • Intercom System
  • Building Management System (BMS), where applicable
  • Verify proper routing, installation, testing, and functionality of auxiliary systems.

Horizontal Development Works

  • Inspect electrical works related to horizontal development projects, including:
  • Underground electrical duct banks and conduits
  • Site power distribution systems
  • Utility electrical lines
  • Street lighting systems
  • Electrical manholes and handholes
  • Electrical service entrances
  • Site grounding systems
  • Electrical utility coordination
  • Verify installation of underground electrical facilities before backfilling.
  • Ensure proper elevations, alignment, conduit spacing, cable installation, and protective measures are in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections with utility providers when required.

Testing and Commissioning

  • Witness insulation resistance tests, continuity tests, grounding resistance tests, functional testing, and other electrical testing activities.
  • Verify test results and ensure deficiencies are corrected before system acceptance.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and final acceptance inspections.

Quality Assurance and Inspection

  • Conduct regular site inspections and prepare inspection reports.
  • Monitor contractor workmanship and compliance with approved construction methods and quality standards.
  • Identify defective or non-conforming work and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify completion of punch list items before project turnover.
  • Ensure materials and equipment delivered on-site comply with approved material submittals and specifications.

Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection and accomplishment reports.
  • Maintain inspection records, quality checklists, testing reports, and documentation.
  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, Requests for Inspection (RFI), Inspection Requests (IR), and as-built drawings.
  • Document site observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and project progress.

Coordination

  • Coordinate with project managers, consultants, contractors, architects, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Attend coordination meetings, technical meetings, inspections, and project progress meetings.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues affecting electrical works.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure electrical installations comply with applicable safety regulations, project safety requirements, and electrical codes.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with electrical safety practices during installation and testing activities.
  • Report unsafe work practices and recommend corrective measures.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferably a Licensed Electrical Engineer (REE).
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction inspection, project management, or electrical engineering works.
  • Experience in residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial, and horizontal development projects is an advantage.
  • Knowledgeable in power distribution, lighting systems, auxiliary systems, electrical testing and commissioning, and horizontal utility infrastructure.
  • Familiar with the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC), applicable safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, shop drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and construction documentation software.
  • Willing to work on project sites and travel as required.
