Job Summary:

The Dump Truck Driver is responsible for transporting loose materials, such as sand, gravel, dirt, and construction debris, to and from job sites. This role involves driving a dump truck safely, adhering to traffic laws, and ensuring the truck is in good working condition. The driver is also responsible for loading and unloading materials efficiently and maintaining proper documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Driving & Transportation: Operate a dump truck to transport materials to and from construction sites, landfills, or other designated locations.
  • Loading & Unloading: Load materials onto the truck at designated locations and safely unload at job sites. May involve operating equipment such as a hoist or lever to dump materials.
  • Route Planning: Plan and follow the most efficient routes to minimize delays, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform regular checks and basic maintenance on the dump truck, including inspecting tires, brakes, lights, and engine. Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to management for repairs.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing proper protective gear, following traffic laws, and ensuring the load is secured properly before transporting.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials transported, delivery times, and fuel usage. May be required to submit daily logs and delivery reports.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact with site managers, foremen, or other personnel to coordinate deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Site Support: Assist with minor site duties when necessary, such as directing traffic, helping with loading/unloading, or assisting on job sites.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous experience driving dump trucks or similar vehicles is preferred, but not always required.
  • License & Certification:
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements is typically required.
  • Clean driving record with a history of safe driving.
  • May require certification for operating specific equipment, such as a hoist or crane (depending on the job site).

Skills:

  • Driving Skills: Strong knowledge of road safety, traffic regulations, and driving techniques, with the ability to operate a large vehicle.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and the ability to perform minor repairs.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with site personnel, supervisors, and other drivers.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours, lift heavy loads, and endure exposure to various weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time or part-time, with potential for irregular hours, including weekends or evenings depending on project deadlines.
  • Outdoor work, often in construction or industrial environments, requiring physical activity and handling of heavy materials.
  • May involve driving on both urban and rural roads, as well as rough or challenging terrain.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to load and unload materials and perform manual labor at job sites.
  • Ability to operate the truck’s hoist and other lifting mechanisms.
