Bus Driver

Job Description:

Bus drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently transporting passengers (or, in some cases, goods) along scheduled routes or to specific destinations. Their core duties include:

  • Operating buses in compliance with traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations
  • Ensuring passenger safety by conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections, monitoring passenger behavior, and responding appropriately to emergencies
  • Following designated routes, timetables, and fare collection procedures (if applicable)
  • Maintaining clean and orderly bus interiors and reporting vehicle maintenance issues promptly
  • Assisting passengers with special needs, luggage, or inquiries
  • Keeping accurate records of trips, mileage, and any incidents or delays

Typical Requirements:

Educational & Licensing:

  • Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent (some employers may accept less with relevant experience)
  • Professional license: Valid professional driver’s license appropriate for the bus type (e.g., Philippine Professional Driver’s License - Restriction Code 2 or higher for light buses; Restriction Code 3/8 for heavy buses, depending on vehicle weight)
  • Special certifications: May require additional training/certifications for school buses, public transport, or handling hazardous materials (if applicable)
  • Clean driving record: No major traffic violations or convictions related to reckless driving, DUI, or endangerment in the past 2–5 years (varies by employer)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a driver (preferably with large vehicles like buses, trucks, or vans)
  • Strong knowledge of local traffic laws, routes, and road safety practices
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills (for passenger-facing roles)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical fitness to operate the vehicle, assist passengers, and perform pre-trip inspections
  • Attention to detail and ability to remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., traffic, emergencies)
