Aircon Technician

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation & Assembly

• Assemble, position, and install indoor and outdoor units (e.g., split-type, window units, cassettes, central systems).
• Connect electrical wiring, control panels, copper tubing, and drainage pipes according to blueprints and technical specs.
• Test newly installed units to verify operational efficiency, airflow, and calibration.

2. Preventive Maintenance

• Clean filters, evaporator coils, condenser units, and drain lines.
• Perform routine chemical cleaning, general overhauls, and coil flushing.
• Check refrigerant gas levels, system pressures, fan motors, and electrical connections.

3. Troubleshooting & Repair

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant faults using multimeters, manifold gauges, and leak detectors.
• Repair or replace defective parts such as compressors, capacitors, contactors, fan motors, expansion valves, or PCBs.
• Fix gas leaks, perform brazing/soldering, vacuum the lines, and recharge refrigerant (freon).

4. Safety & Documentation

• Adhere to local environmental and safety regulations regarding the safe recovery and handling of refrigerants.
• Maintain accurate records of service, maintenance logs, and parts used per work order.
• Provide cost estimates for repairs and advice to customers on proper unit maintenance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical circuits, schematic diagrams, and air distribution systems.
• Education & Certification: High school diploma or equivalent, plus vocational training / trade certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC / HVAC). Environmental certification (e.g., EPA 608) is required in many jurisdictions for refrigerant handling.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and handle varying weather conditions.
• Soft Skills: Good troubleshooting capabilities, clear customer communication, and time management.
