Role Overview

The SMSF Accountant is responsible for providing high-quality Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) accounting, taxation, and compliance services to Australian clients. This role involves preparing and reviewing SMSF tax work, liaising with auditors, maintaining compliance records, and providing advisory support to both clients and internal stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Prepare and review SMSF financial statements, tax returns, and compliance work for Australian clients.
• Liaise with auditors regarding audit queries and implement any required adjustments.
• Assist with the establishment and administration of new Self-Managed Super Funds.
• Maintain accurate client records and ensure all compliance requirements are met.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve SMSF tax and compliance issues.
• Provide advisory support to clients, accountants, and financial advisers as required.
• Review and improve internal SMSF processes to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
• Ensure all work is completed within required deadlines and quality standards.
• Contribute to achieving team KPIs, productivity targets, and client service objectives.
• Support the broader accounting team with taxation and compliance-related matters when required.

Required Experience

• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within Australian public practice or business services.
• Experience preparing and reviewing SMSF financial statements and tax returns.
• Experience liaising with auditors and managing compliance requirements.
• Experience working with Australian taxation and accounting processes.
• Experience handling trust, company, and partnership tax returns is highly regarded.
• Proven ability to meet KPIs, budgets, and productivity targets.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
• CPA or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification preferred.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation principles.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining compliance standards.
