Introduction
World Citi Group (WCG) is a family-owned and managed conglomerate whose businesses include operations in education, aviation, healthcare, leisure, and real estate industry.
WCG started its history in 1971 when the Guico family acquired Quezon City Memorial Center, a dilapidated four-story building, which was at the edge of foreclosure. Guico’s forward thinking, firm decision, and determination to raise the hospital again led to the construction of a fifteen-story hospital which is now World Citi Medical Center. It is the country’s first medical hotel. It started the trend for other hospitals. Standing tall with its forty-five (45) years of service, it continuously provides holistic, quality, and affordable healthcare services to its community.
With the rebuilding of the hospital, the Guico family saw the need to invest heavily in training and hire the best in the field. This led to the synergy of World Citi Medical Center and World Citi Colleges in 1996 to provide students with the fundamental and practical education in the field of healthcare. The school became one of the preferred nursing schools in the Philippines. With its fast growing number of students, World Citi Colleges ventured into other fields of education with high demand of graduates which includes hospitality, information technology, business, education, and criminology. It is now operating four campuses located in Quezon City (School of Medical and Tourism), Antipolo City (School of Business and Information technology), Nueva Ecjia (School of Education and Criminilogy), and Caloocan City (School of Aviation).
In 2006, the aspiration and passion of the eldest son of being a pilot led him, with the support of the family, to build World Citi Colleges Aviation Company which made a niche in the aviation industry. From a flying school, it expanded to offering other aviation services such as air transport, aircraft maintenance, fueling, and shuttle services.
The acquisition of several properties that turned to be flourishing endeavors paved way for the Guico family to establish Citi Property and Management Realty in 2007 that develops and manages its own numerous land properties from various industries. The business has grown as it is also engaged in general construction. The rising trend in the tourism industry led the family to turn their acquired property in Batangas to a premier diving and family leisure resort in 2011. Through the innovation of services, relaxing amenities and inviting attractions they have found a niche in the industry and opened other resorts with hospitality, relaxation, and a spirit of adventure combined with the beauty of nature as center pieces in every resort of Citi Leisures – Alta Roca in Antipolo, El Pinoy in Batangas, and the new and biggest resort to date, Alta Breeza in Boracay.
While the company has faced business cycles of ups and downs through the years, it has managed to keep a strong financial position which allows for investments into new ventures as they arise. As the company strives to improve its current operations, it remains open to new opportunities to enhance value for its stakeholders
