Introduction
Central Luzon Doctors’ Hospital Educational Institution was established in September 19, 1976 by the Central Luzon Doctors’ Hospital through the leadership of Dr. Constante D. Quirino, founder and President, and the strong advocacy of Mrs. Remedios A. Quirino. Started initially as a graduate nurse school, CLDHEI today offers tertiary educational programs for nursing and allied healthcare education, a graduate school for nursing, and basic education from kindergarten, and grades 1 to 12. Senior high school offers three strands of the academic track, namely: STEM, HUMSS, and ABM plus Industrial Arts strand from the technical-vocational-livelihood track. The Institution was initially established as a school for nursing graduates with the three-year Graduate Nurse Program as its first curricular offering. The GNP was immediately followed by the two-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Supplemental Course. In 1985, CLDHEI was granted government recognition for its four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Soon after, several allied healthcare programs were added; such as, Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, Associate in Pulmonary Therapy, Associate in Radiologic Technology, Midwifery, Nursing Aide (now Health Care Services NC II) and Medical Secretarial. Two years later, the Commission on Higher Education issued permits for Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology. In 1988, additional allied healthcare programs were offered – the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. These new courses provided students with more alternative programs to pursue other than BSN. In the same year, the Graduate School was established with the Master of Science in Nursing as its course offering. The first CLDHEI campus was in one three-story building within the Central Luzon Doctor’s Hospital in Barangay San Vicente, just enough to accommodate the enrolment of a fledgling nursing school. As student enrolment increased, in the 1980s another three-story building was constructed along Romulo Boulevard, just behind the hospital of CLDH, to provide more classrooms to the growing student population. In June 2003, a new campus was inaugurated in Barangay San Pablo to provide better facilities and more classrooms. The new college grounds included modern educational facilities: spacious air-conditioned classrooms; state-of-the-art laboratories; audio-visual rooms; a three thousand-capacity gymnasium and sports facilities. By the year 2006, the whole school have transferred from the old San Vicente site to the new San Pablo campus. As a tribute to the Institution’s founder, the Dr. Constante D. Quirino Library was opened in 2006 to provide a broader milieu of healthcare and general education publications in printed and digital forms as well as free access to the internet and internet-based healthcare journals. Housed in a three-story building, the Dr. Quirino Library also have more spaces for study, a separate audio-visual room, and an environment that is more conducive for learning.Another three-story building was built soon after to provide canteen services in the ground floor, a whole floor for the teaching staff on the second, and a hall for study lounge and a more spacious audio-visual room in the third. Supplementary classrooms were again added to accommodate more students. In 2008, the Institution included Basic Education program among its services, which offered kindergarten, elementary, and high school. In 2011, following DepEd’s shift to the “K to 12” basic educational program, CLDHEI adjusted its offering to kindergarten, elementary, and junior and senior high school programs. The Institution is a participant in the DepEd’s Educational Service Contracting (ESC) program for Junior High School and the Senior High School Voucher Program (SHSVP), both government financial assistance for deserving high school students.
